When you get home from the store with fresh crab, it's best to consume it as soon as possible, ideally on the same day of purchase. Fresh seafood, including crab, is highly perishable and can spoil quickly if not handled and stored properly. The longer you wait to eat it, the higher the risk of bacterial growth and the decline in quality and taste.

Keep it in the coldest part of your refrigerator, usually at a temperature of 32°F to 40°F (0°C to 4°C).

However, even with refrigeration, it's best to eat the crab within 1-2 days of purchase. The sooner you enjoy it, the better it will taste and the lower the risk of foodborne illness. If the crab smells off or shows signs of spoilage, such as a slimy texture or discoloration, discard it immediately.
