  1. Wash and remove any remaining residue: After taking the cast iron out of the dishwasher, wash it with warm soapy water and a soft brush or sponge to remove any leftover food particles or detergent.

  2. Dry it thoroughly: Pat the cast iron dry with a clean towel, ensuring there is no moisture left on the surface.

  3. Apply a thin layer of oil: Using a paper towel or cloth, apply a thin layer of vegetable oil, flaxseed oil, or any other high-smoke-point oil to the entire surface of the cast iron, including the handles.

  4. Remove excess oil: Wipe off any excess oil so that only a thin, even layer remains. Too much oil can lead to a sticky finish.
