The primary reason why there is no direct current (DC) available for running appliances like washing machines and dishwashers is due to the historical development of electrical systems and the advantages of alternating current (AC) for power transmission.

When electricity distribution systems were first developed in the late 19th century, AC power emerged as the preferred choice for long-distance transmission. AC power can be easily transformed to different voltage levels using transformers, allowing for efficient transmission over long distances with less energy loss. Additionally, AC power can be generated more efficiently using alternating current generators.

On the other hand, DC power has limitations for long-distance transmission and requires more complex and expensive equipment, such as high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission systems and converters. These factors made AC power more practical for widespread electricity distribution.

While many electronic devices and appliances operate on DC power internally, they are designed to be compatible with AC power from the electrical grid. Appliances like washing machines and dishwashers typically incorporate AC motors that operate more efficiently with AC power. Converting the AC power from the grid to DC power for each individual appliance would require additional components and introduce inefficiencies.

It's worth noting that with the increasing popularity of renewable energy sources and the development of more efficient power electronics, there is growing interest in using DC power distribution in certain contexts, such as data centers and renewable energy systems. However, implementing widespread DC power distribution for household appliances would involve significant infrastructure changes and is not currently the standard practice.
