Biscuits can be a delightful addition to any meal or enjoyed on their own. Here's a simple recipe for making biscuits:
Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
- 3/4 cup milk
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt until well combined.
Add the cold butter pieces to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Make sure not to overmix, as small butter chunks will create a flaky texture.
Pour in the milk and stir until the dough comes together. It should be slightly sticky but manageable. If it's too dry, you can add a bit more milk, a tablespoon at a time.
Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface. Gently knead it a few times until it becomes smooth.
Roll out the dough to a thickness of about 1/2 inch (1.3 cm). Use a biscuit cutter or a round cookie cutter to cut out biscuits from the dough. Place the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between each.
Gather any leftover dough scraps and gently reshape them to cut out more biscuits until you've used up all the dough.
Bake the biscuits in the preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes, or until they turn golden brown on top.
Once baked, remove the biscuits from the oven and let them cool slightly on a wire rack. Serve them warm with butter, jam, gravy, or any other desired accompaniment.
Enjoy your homemade biscuits!
